Does Lightening Your Hair With Olaplex Really Prevent Damage?

Olaplex is a colour service upgrade technique that allows hair colourists to achieve amazing lightening results without compromising the condition of the hair. Olaplex uses a three step process working to repair broken bonds so the hair bounces back healthier than ever, after the bleaching process.

But seeing as Olaplex is a one of the biggest advances in hair technology and achieves amazing results, people often wonder, does Olaplex actually work to prevent damage? The answer is yes!

What is Olaplex?

The Olaplex hair treatment system is designed to penetrate the inside of the hair to repair and reconnect broken disulfide sulfur bonds and restore damaged hair to its former glory. The treatment system is catered to all hair types, textures and colours, promising to have hair feeling and looking healthier. Olaplex’s treatment system consists of 7 different bond repairing treatments. Some bond repairing treatments can be done at home, while some need to be done at the salon. It is important to note that the Olaplex No.1 and No.2 can only be used in conjunction with chemical services such as bleaching, and can only be applied by certified salon professionals. Whereas No.3 – No.7 are available for retail sale and are meant to be used as at home treatments.

Step by step analysis

The Olaplex range has expanded due to its popularity, but it was originally a three step system. Bond Multiplier: Olaplex No.1 called the Bond Multiplier, is applied at the salon, with the bleach, or permanent dye and is a water soluble solution made up of bis-aminopropyl diglycol dimaleate active. Bond Perfector: Olaplex No.2 is labelled the Bond Perfector, containing a smaller amount of the same active ingredients in No.1 mixed with conditioning agents. Step No.2 is also applied in the salon and is considered a post colour salon conditioning treatment. Hair Perfector: Olaplex No.3 is the take home product in the three step process. It is called the Hair Perfector, and contains an even smaller amount of the active ingredients, mixed with mostly conditioning agents. This step should be applied to the hair similar to an at home, leave in conditioner. Olaplex now offers steps No.1 to No.7. All products contain portions of the same active ingredients found in Olaplex No.1, No.2 and No.3, and all have the same claim, to repair broken bonds in the hair.
